Chicago Heights Box Alarm, 2-11-14

Tim Olk responded to a commercial fire at a glass factory in Chicago Heights this morning, arriving at 1131 Arnold Street. The incident took place around 9 a.m., according to reports from nwi.com. A fire broke out at the Gerresheimer Glass Co. when a furnace malfunctioned, causing molten glass to spew out like lava. Firefighters were quickly on the scene and began pouring water onto the furnace immediately upon arrival. However, a steam explosion occurred on the third floor, sending molten glass flying across the structure and igniting a fire, as reported by Chicago Heights Fire Chief James Angell. The blaze was under control after about 45 minutes of intense firefighting efforts. Firefighters stayed on-site to assist plant workers in restarting the furnace, preventing the molten glass from solidifying and causing further damage. The facility, which has been operating at the same location since the early 1900s, specializes in producing primary glass packaging for pharmaceutical and cosmetic products. Due to the size of the building and the cold weather conditions, additional help was called in from neighboring departments. Firefighters from Matteson, Park Forest, Glenwood, Homewood, Flossmoor, Sauk Village, Frankfort, Steger, and Hazel Crest arrived to support the response. Meanwhile, local departments in Crete, Richton Park, Crete Township, University Park, and Richton Park Township managed other calls in Chicago Heights. Though no injuries were reported, the incident highlights the dangers of industrial fires, especially in facilities handling high-temperature materials. Photos taken by Tim Olk show the extent of the damage and the challenging conditions firefighters faced during the operation.

Cast D-type Link Kiln Chains are mainly used in cement industry, but also in paper, metallurgical, mining and chemical industry. Cast D-type Link Kiln Chains are manufactured by investment casting to ensure high dimensional accuracy and surface finish. Compared with the oval ring chains, the D-type link cast kiln chains are more durable. In the condition of equal wear, D-type rings have longer life time than oval rings. Various ring sizes can be customized according to customers' demands.
