Sichuan-made CNC machine tools have played a surprising role in the production of Boeing aircraft engine blades. According to a report from the Provincial Department of Commerce, Sichuan Changzheng Machine Tool Group Co., Ltd. recently exported its "Longmen Machining Center" to Boeing, marking a major breakthrough for Chinese manufacturing. This advanced machine tool was used to produce critical components for Boeing’s aircraft, including the engine blades.
This achievement is historic—this is the first time a domestically produced CNC machine tool has received an order from Boeing, and it also represents the first successful export of such equipment to the United States. Li Zhi, head of the marketing department at Changzheng Group, explained that the machine is specifically designed to handle complex aerospace parts. Due to the intricate curved surfaces required by Boeing's components, traditional three-axis machines were insufficient. Instead, Changzheng’s self-developed "GMC Gantry Machining Center," which features five-axis linkage technology, was able to meet these high-precision demands.
Currently, only two companies in China are capable of producing such advanced machine tools, and they are considered to be on par with global leaders in the industry. The success of this project highlights not only the technical capabilities of Chinese manufacturers but also their growing international recognition.
To secure the Boeing contract, Changzheng Group partnered with Fidia, a renowned global machine tool company, last year. Through a comprehensive cooperation agreement covering sales, technology, and market expansion, Changzheng leveraged Fidia’s international reputation while showcasing the competitive advantages of its GMC Longmen Machining Center. This collaboration helped Changzheng gain credibility in the global market and ultimately win Boeing’s trust.
The project has also attracted attention from other countries, with orders coming in from the U.S., Germany, and Italy. Additionally, the National Development and Reform Commission and the National Defense Science and Technology Commission have recognized Changzheng’s technology as a preferred domestic equipment for aerospace and military industries.
This milestone marks a significant step forward for China’s manufacturing sector, proving that high-end machine tools can now compete on the world stage.
