On the 28th, Weichai Power released its 2008 annual report, revealing a solid performance amid a challenging economic climate. During the reporting period, the company achieved an operating income of 33.128 billion yuan, representing a 13.21% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Notably, the company's core business generated foreign sales revenue of 2.625 billion yuan, marking a significant growth of 51.74% year-on-year. Despite this positive trend, net profit attributable to shareholders declined by 4.36% to 1.931 billion yuan, with earnings per share dropping to 2.32 yuan, a decrease of 15.94% from the prior year.
Looking ahead, Weichai Power outlined its strategic focus for 2009, emphasizing the promotion of national III high-power, high-speed engines and leveraging its technological strengths to meet the growing demand for environmentally friendly, energy-efficient, and high-performance heavy trucks in China. The company plans to use Lanqing Power as its central pillar, supported by newly developed 5L, 7L, and 16L engines, to expand into emerging markets such as passenger vehicles, non-loader construction machinery, medium and heavy trucks, marine applications, and industrial power generation. Weichai also set an ambitious target for 2009, expecting sales revenue to reach approximately 3.5 billion yuan. In addition, the company’s board of directors proposed a profit distribution plan for 2008, suggesting a cash dividend of RMB 1.3 (inclusive of tax) per 10 shares based on the total share capital of 833 million shares.
