Chicago experienced a major 2-11 alarm fire this morning at a two-story commercial building located at 2100 W. Fulton Street. The incident began around 4:30 a.m., when a caller reported smoke and flames. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions, prompting an immediate escalation of the response. The fire quickly spread through the roof, revealing that the structure had a bowstring truss system—a known hazard in fire situations due to its potential for rapid collapse.
In response to the growing threat, two tower ladders and the Snorkel unit from Squad 1 were deployed, along with two ground-level multi-purpose units. Firefighters used elevated master streams to combat the blaze from above while teams worked on the ground to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further. A Level I Hazardous Materials team was also dispatched as a precautionary measure.
The fire has been under control, but investigators are now on scene to determine the cause. Local residents were advised to keep windows closed and avoid the area until the situation is fully resolved. This is one of the more significant fires seen in the area recently, highlighting the importance of quick response and advanced firefighting tactics.
