On June 18th, Delfast kicked off its first major power experiment by testing the capabilities of its electric bike model, the Top 1.0. The goal was to see if the e-bike could pull a Yak-18T aircraft weighing 1.7 tons (3,400 pounds) at Kyiv Chaika Airfield.

Although the results weren’t exactly what they hoped for, the team found the trial incredibly valuable and informative. The Top 1.0 is designed for long-distance riding, not for heavy-duty tasks like pulling an aircraft. That explains why the test didn’t go as smoothly as expected.

Interestingly, the motor had enough power to move the aircraft, but the bike didn’t budge. The reason? The safety shutdown system engaged immediately. This gave the team a clear direction for future improvements.

“I’m pretty satisfied with the outcome. We got both positive and negative feedback. The good news is that the e-bike managed to pull the aircraft, even uphill. The bad part is it couldn’t move it at all. The electronics shut down right from the start. Our next step is to find that safety lock, remove it, and come back here to try again. Maybe next time we’ll take on a Boeing,” said Daniel Tonkopiy, CEO of Delfast.

This experiment has opened up new possibilities for Delfast. By exploring these kinds of challenges, the company is working toward creating new models tailored for different industries—like delivery workers, farmers, and others who need to handle heavy loads over 1 ton (2,000 pounds).

The aircraft community was particularly interested in the project. Many people were excited about the potential of such a vehicle for real-world applications.
