Glenview moves to temporary station>
The Glenview Fire Department has officially vacated Station 6 located at 1815 Glenview Road. As previously reported, the building is set to be demolished as part of a larger downtown redevelopment initiative. In the meantime, the department’s headquarters and administrative offices have been temporarily relocated to the police station, while the fire companies have been dispersed across different locations:
- Battalion 6 is now operating from Station 14
- Ambulance 6 is based out of Station 13
- Engine 6 is stationed at a temporary location on the park district property along Glenview Road
These changes are part of a transition period while the city plans for a new fire facility. The old Station 6, which had served the community for many years, stands empty, marking the end of an era. Several historical elements, including a memorial marker and a bench with a bell, have been removed and will be reinstalled once the new site is completed.
Photos from local photographer Larry Shapiro capture the current state of the site, showing the temporary engine station, the apparatus bay, and the vacant headquarters building. These images reflect both the progress and the bittersweet nature of this change for the Glenview community.
