SAN FRANCISCO & WASHINGTON – (BUSINESS WIRE) – Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) is stepping up its efforts to support the next generation of innovators by partnering with President Barack Obama and top technology and telecom companies. The initiative aims to equip American high school students with the skills needed for careers in science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM). As part of this effort, Autodesk is expanding its popular "Design the Future" program, offering free access to 3D design software, project-based curricula, training, and certification to all U.S. middle and high schools in 2014.

"We’re seeing a growing demand for skilled professionals in fields like engineering and architecture, but there’s a shortage of qualified graduates," said Carl Bass, Autodesk’s president and CEO. "By supporting programs that help students develop these critical skills, we’re not only meeting a national need but also investing in the future of our industry. We're proud to align with President Obama's vision and commit to making our 'Design the Future' program available to every secondary school in the country over the next year."

The "Design the Future" program gives educators the tools they need to teach students essential problem-solving skills and prepare them for successful careers in STEAM fields. Initially launched as a pilot in California in 2013 and later expanded to Texas in 2014, the program provides free access to current versions of Autodesk’s 3D design software, including over 14 key products used in architecture, engineering, and entertainment. It also includes curriculum aligned with Common Core and ISTE standards, along with professional development and certification opportunities.

In just six months, more than 350 schools in California have joined the program. With today’s announcement, Autodesk will make its software available at no cost to over 27,000 secondary schools across the United States. If all schools take advantage of the offer, the total value of the program will exceed $250 million.
