Autodesk Teams with the Fab Foundation to Provide Design Tools to Makers Worldwide

At the Fab 11 conference held at MIT today, Autodesk and the Fab Foundation announced a new partnership, with Autodesk becoming a Fab Sponsor. As part of this collaboration, Autodesk will provide free access to its cloud and mobile design software for Fab Labs and their global community of makers. With over 500 Fab Labs worldwide, this initiative aims to empower innovators by giving them the tools they need to bring their ideas to life.

Samir Hanna, Vice President and General Manager of Autodesk's Consumer & 3D Printing Group, emphasized the shared vision between Autodesk and Fab Lab. "Digital fabrication is transforming how people create, from personalized products to advanced manufacturing. The Fab Lab network is at the forefront of this movement, and we're excited to support them with powerful, accessible design tools," he said. "With the right digital tools, anyone can turn an idea into a tangible creation." Starting today, the global Fab Lab community will have free access to a range of Autodesk software, along with training resources. These include: - **Tinkercad** – A user-friendly, web-based 3D design tool that makes it easy to create and print custom models. - **123D Circuits** – A free online platform for designing electronics projects using Arduino and simulating circuits in real time. - **Fusion 360** – A cloud-based CAD/CAM/CAE solution that supports modern product development workflows. These tools are now being added to the Fab Lab inventory and will be integrated into the Fab Academy curriculum. Additionally, Autodesk will host a hands-on workshop at Fab 11, guiding attendees through the process of 3D scanning, designing, and even building robotic prosthetics using the available software. In addition to the software, Fab Lab members will also receive exclusive benefits, including a **10% discount on the new Arduino Basic Kit**, which combines hardware and software for creative electronics projects. "For years, we've worked closely with Autodesk at the local level, and now we're taking this relationship to a global scale. By combining Autodesk’s innovative tools with our global network of Fab Labs, we’re helping more people around the world become creators and problem-solvers," she said.
