Butterfly valve: different conditions for different types of occasions

Butterfly valves are widely used in various industrial applications due to their effective sealing properties, especially when dealing with media that contains suspended solids, powders, or granular materials. The design of the butterfly valve allows it to handle such challenging media, depending on the strength and type of the seal used. These valves are compact in size, with a short overall length and height, which makes them ideal for installations where space is limited. They open and close quickly, offering minimal fluid resistance when fully open, and provide precise flow control when partially opened—typically between 15° and 70°. This makes them particularly suitable for large-diameter valve production. Butterfly valves are recommended in several scenarios: when throttling and flow regulation are needed, when handling mud or solid-laden media, when a short valve structure is required, when fast opening and closing are necessary, or when operating under low-pressure conditions. In two-position control, narrow channels, low-noise environments, and situations where cavitation or vaporization may occur, butterfly valves can be an excellent choice. They also perform well with abrasive media, allowing for a small amount of atmospheric leakage. For special operating conditions such as throttling, strict sealing requirements, severe wear, or cryogenic temperatures, it's essential to use specialized designs like tri-eccentric or double eccentric metal-seated butterfly valves. Soft-seated butterfly valves are commonly used in ventilation and dust removal systems for bidirectional flow control in industries such as metallurgy, light manufacturing, power generation, and petrochemicals, as well as in gas and water pipelines. Metal-to-metal double-eccentric butterfly valves are ideal for heating, steam, water, gas, oil, and chemical pipelines, serving as both regulating and shut-off devices. Additionally, triple-eccentric metal-seated butterfly valves are widely applied in fields such as petroleum, chemical processing, metallurgy, power generation, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, water supply, and gas transportation, except in cases where large pressure swing adsorption systems are involved. Their durability and reliability make them a preferred choice in demanding environments.
