Luo Zhijun, the governor of Jiangsu Province, recently emphasized that this year, the province aims to achieve an 11% growth in GDP while significantly improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact. The plan focuses on optimizing industrial structures, enhancing operational efficiency, cutting energy consumption, and strengthening environmental protection. As a result, the province expects a 4.4% reduction in energy use per unit of GDP, along with a 3% decrease in oxygen demand and a 3.6% drop in sulfur dioxide emissions.
Jiangsu has also successfully completed its three-year initiative to shut down small-scale chemical industries one year ahead of schedule, demonstrating its commitment to sustainable development. To further support these goals, the province will adopt a "three-pronged approach" by intensifying energy-saving and emission-reduction efforts, promoting structural adjustments, and advancing technological innovation. Additionally, stricter entry standards will be implemented for energy-saving and environmental protection projects, particularly in key regions and industries.
The government will also raise the bar for pollution discharge standards, especially for high-energy-consuming projects. Emphasis will be placed on industrial energy conservation, with special attention given to key sectors such as chemicals, building materials, alloys, power generation, and textiles. Enterprises consuming over 5,000 tons of standard coal annually will be closely monitored to ensure they meet energy-saving targets. Any projects or enterprises that pose serious environmental risks will be firmly eliminated to ensure long-term sustainability and cleaner growth.
