Luo Zhijun, the governor of Jiangsu Province, recently emphasized that this year, the province aims to achieve an 11% growth in GDP while significantly improving energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact. The plan includes a 4.4% decrease in energy consumption per unit of GDP, achieved through structural optimization, enhanced efficiency, reduced resource use, and stronger environmental protection measures. In addition, oxygen demand and sulfur dioxide emissions are expected to drop by 3% and 3.6%, respectively. Jiangsu has also completed its three-year initiative to shut down small chemical enterprises one year ahead of schedule, marking a major step forward in industrial upgrading.
To support these goals, Jiangsu will intensify efforts in energy saving and emission reduction, adopting a "three-pronged approach" that combines structural adjustment, technological innovation, and improved management. The province will raise the entry standards for energy-saving and environmental protection projects, especially for construction and industrial sectors with high pollution risks. It will also enforce stricter emission regulations in key regions and industries, such as chemicals, building materials, metallurgy, power generation, textiles, and other energy-intensive sectors.
Moreover, Jiangsu will focus on industrial energy conservation, ensuring that key industries and enterprises consuming over 5,000 tons of standard coal annually meet strict energy-saving targets. Projects and companies that pose serious environmental risks will be firmly phased out, reinforcing the province’s commitment to sustainable development and ecological protection. This comprehensive strategy reflects Jiangsu's determination to balance economic growth with environmental responsibility, setting a strong example for other regions in China.
