New engine in Glenview>
The Glenview Fire Department recently received two new 2010 Pierce Arrow XT engines, which were previously mentioned in our archives. These units, assigned to Engine 6 and Engine 7, represent an important upgrade for the department. However, Engine 6 is still awaiting the installation of its radios before it can be officially put into service. Meanwhile, Engine 7 has already been deployed and features a standard pumper body.
Engine 7 was delivered with serial number 23701 and replaced the older Pierce Enforcer that had previously served as Engine 7. That unit has now been reassigned to Engine 13 (serial number 17393), which was previously equipped with a 1990 Pierce Lance engine. The old Pierce Lance is set to be decommissioned soon.
In a previous post from July, we noted that Glenview had ordered these two Arrow XT engines. One was intended to match Engine 8, a rescue-style Arrow XT, while the other was meant to have a standard pumper body—similar to Engines 6 and 7.
We’ve shared several photos of the new equipment. The first image shows Engine 7 (23701) in its delivery configuration, which appears similar to Engine 8. However, the latest photo shows Engine 7 with a standard pumper body, matching the look of the older Enforcers. This suggests that the initial delivery photo may have shown a different configuration or a prototype.
Another image captures Engine 13, now operating the 2006 Pierce Enforcer that used to be Engine 7. The Enforcer has undergone some visual updates, including a painted steel bumper, LED lighting, and a redesigned hosebed. It also features a 1,500-GPM pump and foam tanks with capacities of 10 and 40 gallons, replacing the older dual 25-gallon tanks.
Notably, Engine 13 has a chevron stripe on its chrome bumper, adding a distinctive touch. The new Arrow XT units also come with updated pump panels that clearly label the tank capacities, a feature that’s been missing on many older rigs. This detail is especially useful for apparatus enthusiasts and historians, as it provides precise specifications without guesswork.
At the recent FDIC trade show, we noticed this labeling trend appearing on several units, suggesting it may become a common industry standard. For fire departments and photographers alike, this level of transparency is a welcome improvement.
