New engine in Glenview

The Glenview Fire Department recently welcomed two new 2010 Pierce Arrow XT engines, which were previously mentioned in an article. These units were delivered on the Arrow XT chassis and are now part of the department’s fleet. However, Engine 6 is still awaiting the installation of its radio system before it can be officially put into service. In contrast, Engine 7 has already been deployed and received a new Pierce Arrow XT unit with serial number 23701. The previous engine assigned to Engine 7, a Pierce Enforcer, was reassigned to Engine 13 with serial number 17393. In a post from last July, we highlighted that Glenview had ordered these two new engines. One was intended to match Engine 8, a Pierce Arrow XT equipped with a rescue-style body, while the other was set to have a standard pumper body similar to Engines 6 and 7. This aligns with what we’ve seen so far. A recent photo from Pierce shows Engine 7, a 2010 Arrow XT, which appears very similar to Engine 8. However, the latest images show Engine 7 with a standard pumper body, not the rescue-style design featured in the delivery photo. This is consistent with the older Enforcer units currently in service, such as Engine 13, which was once Engine 7 before being reclassified. Engine 13 now operates a 2006 Pierce Enforcer, replacing the old 1990 Pierce Lance, which is scheduled for disposal. The differences between the new Arrow XT and the older Enforcer models are quite noticeable. The new unit features a painted steel bumper instead of a chrome one, barrier-style short cab doors, a full LED light bar, and a longer hosebed with a flush rear body design. Additionally, Engine 13 has chevron striping on its chrome bumper, and the new unit includes a 1,500-GPM pump along with foam tanks of 10 and 40 gallons—upgrading from the previous 25-gallon tanks. Another notable feature is the updated pump panel on the new engines, which now clearly labels the capacities of both water and foam tanks. This is a welcome improvement, as it eliminates the need for guesswork when identifying key specifications. This detail was also seen on several units at the FDIC trade show in Indianapolis, suggesting it may become a common trend among fire apparatus manufacturers. These updates reflect the ongoing modernization of the Glenview Fire Department’s fleet, ensuring better performance, safety, and clarity in equipment specifications.
