A serious incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when a pickup truck veered off Route 30 and crashed into two NLFPD emergency vehicles stationed at Station 1. The collision caused significant damage to both vehicles, which are typically used by the Fire and Life Safety Division.

The damaged vehicles were a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban and a 2006 Ford Expedition. The crash took place just after 1 p.m. at the station located at 261 E. Maple Street. One individual was taken to a local hospital for evaluation, though no firefighters were injured in the accident.

Chief Steve Engledow expressed relief that no one was seriously hurt. “We are very thankful no one was seriously injured in this crash,” he said. “Vehicles can be replaced, but our team is safe.”

While there is no major damage to the station itself, some landscaping and exterior lighting were affected. Authorities are still investigating the cause of the incident to determine what led to the vehicle going off the road and crashing into the fire department’s property.
