**Site Bite: Sizing an Evaporator Coil at JFK Airport**
Join James Filauro, our NY-area Account Manager, and me, Jack Kessler, as we take you behind the scenes of a recent coil job at New York’s busiest airport. This was my first time on a real jobsite, and it turned out to be one of the most exciting experiences I’ve had so far.
The task? Sizing an evaporator coil in the control tower at JFK Airport. It wasn’t just any ordinary site visit—it was a full-on adventure from start to finish.
Getting to the control tower wasn’t easy. The security process was intense—background checks, escorts, and even driving across an active runway with planes landing and taking off all around us. It was surreal, especially for someone who had only been with Nationwide Coils for a month.
Once inside, we found that the evaporator coil had already been removed, but the original Trane® chilled water coil was still in place. That gave us a starting point. James used the dimensions of the existing coil to estimate the size of the new one, and I took detailed notes throughout the process.
We also had to figure out where the connection points were. Since the original evaporator coil was gone, we measured the holes on the side panel of the chilled water unit. That helped us replicate the exact layout for the new coil.
It was a great learning experience. I realized how important attention to detail is, especially when working in such a high-traffic and critical area like an airport control tower.
This job reminded me why I love what I do—every site has its own challenges, and every challenge is an opportunity to learn. Thanks to James and the team at Nationwide Coils, I feel more confident than ever about tackling real-world projects.
