2-Alarm fire in Des Plaines, 1-5-23

This message comes from Larry Shapiro: After receiving numerous 911 calls, firefighters from the North Maine Fire Protection District were dispatched to an unspecified address where a significant fire was reported. Following a specific direction, they traveled less than half a mile to 9320 Noel Street in unincorporated Maine Township. Upon arriving, they found a severe fire engulfing part of a four-unit, two-story apartment building. The front portion of the second unit from the street was completely destroyed, with flames billowing out of what remained. The initial alarm was escalated to a Working Fire status and then further upgraded to a MABAS Box Alarm. Shortly after, the alarm reached a Second Alarm level, bringing additional resources from neighboring areas like Glencoe and Lincolnshire. Firefighters utilized multiple handlines and three elevated master streams to combat the blaze. By the time I arrived, most of the fire had already been brought under control. [Attached are several photos taken by Larry Shapiro.] --- In related news, here's a short video clip shared by Steve Redick: [Embedded YouTube video plays] --- It’s incredible to see how quickly these firefighters responded and managed to contain such a large fire.
