Finishing Systems Finishes New York Jets Guacamole Bowl
On September 8, 2019, the New York Jets kicked off their football season against the Buffalo Bills, and it turned out to be more than just another game. At Finishing Systems, we were thrilled to play a significant role in making it unforgettable. This year, the Jets teamed up with Avocados from Peru, a major avocado brand, to launch a unique collaboration during the game. They created a massive guacamole bowl weighing 9,000 pounds, setting a new world record. Our contribution? Preparing the stainless steel bowl for its big debut.
The stainless steel guacamole bowl, crafted by Airside Inc., measured an impressive 9 feet by 5 feet, designed to accommodate vast quantities of guacamole for the crowd. During the event, Avocados from Peru generously distributed guacamole to all attendees. Before the big day, we stepped in to refine the bowl's surface using our expertise in abrasive blasting. The goal? To ensure the bowl was not only functional but also visually appealing, ready to handle the high-stakes event.
Our approach involved a two-step process using Starblast™ abrasives and glass bead blasting. These methods allowed us to achieve a smooth, refined finish on the stainless steel surface, removing any imperfections and preparing it for the intense activity ahead. Starblast™ abrasives are made from tiny Staurolite sand grains, making them versatile for various industrial applications. They’re eco-friendly, producing minimal dust and containing negligible silica, ensuring safety across industries. Glass bead blasting, on the other hand, uses Ballotini Impact Beads, which provide a softer, smoother finish, ideal for delicate surfaces.
The transformation was remarkable. The initial pre-blasted state showed visible marks and imperfections, but after our meticulous treatment, the bowl emerged with a polished, professional look. It was ready to serve as both a culinary masterpiece and a stunning centerpiece for the event.
